Repairing versus replacing in New Clee

Cast iron baths especially are worth keeping: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Our bath repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is usually a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

About our bath repair in New Clee

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a repair that is smooth, sound and hard to spot. We prepare the area properly, fill and shape it, then match the colour and gloss so it’s level with the surrounding surface. Typical jobs include a kit repair that didn’t last and rusty patches near the plughole, in roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you are not left guessing. On site, it takes two to three hours for most chips. The room is left tidy.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How many areas need work
  • The material

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone photos are fine. Make sure they show:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The material, if you know it

Getting a price is easy: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

New Clee: your questions answered

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On a bath in good condition, a colour matched repair is very hard to spot. On worn enamel, it can look shinier than the rest.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Do you cover the whole of North East Lincolnshire?

We work UK-wide, so New Clee is covered. Prices don’t change with location.

Are there extra charges for New Clee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

When a repair is not the answer

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel

What we are called out for in New Clee

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On enamelled baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • A chipped rim or side

Comparing quotes

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What prep work is covered
  • How your room will be protected
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

10 questions to ask before you book

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

What your bath is made of matters

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath without abrasive products.

A small chip is a quick job. Leave them and they collect dirt, stain and, on metal baths, rust, so early repair saves time and money.
