Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Most people are surprised how affordable a repair is, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we will give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos through our quote form or ring us. We will say immediately if a repair is the right fix.

The process

When we visit, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job usually takes two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and you are under no obligation.

Related advice

When we would advise against a repair

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we work on

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Ensure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Common questions in New Hartley

Will the repair last?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across North Tyneside.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Usually the day after. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Are there extra charges for New Hartley?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Why repair rather than replace?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Prices start from £95. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Why New Hartley customers choose us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • Technicians who travel to you, UK-wide
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

When to call us in New Hartley

Baths take more knocks than people expect: bottles, shower heads and razors are dropped every day, and taps and wastes are tightened against the surface. Sooner or later, most baths pick up a chip.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Cracks in an acrylic bath
  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • A hole punched through by something heavy

10 questions to ask before booking

What your bath is made of matters

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches are filled and matched, just like other baths.
