Bath repair for Newlands homes

Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Bath repair in Newlands without replacing anything

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and the bath is back in use the following day. There is no need to book a plumber or tiler, because the bath does not move. If you’re dealing with a cracked acrylic bath and impact holes in acrylic, we can help.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a fitted bath normally involves a plumber, removing the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair fixes just the damaged area in one visit. Prices start from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Honest limits

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Cracks in acrylic we cannot reach from underneath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Aftercare tips

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

There’s nothing special to do after a repair, beyond gentle cleaning. Skip bleach and gritty creams and give it a rinse after each bath.

Rust spreads under enamel faster than most people expect. A chip the size of a fingernail can become a much larger patch if it’s left for months, so it pays to deal with it early.

Newlands questions

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this frequently. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Which areas do you work in?

All of Glasgow, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

How long before I can use the bath?

Most baths can be used the next day. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

Do you come to Newlands?

We do. We send a technician to Newlands for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes, coloured baths are no problem. We tint the finish to your bath on site.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Do you need bath repair in Newlands?

Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else. Taps and wastes cause problems too: water collects there, so chips nearby rust quickly.

People normally call us when they notice one of these:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Damage beneath the taps
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Deep scratches in acrylic

What your quote should include

  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Aftercare advice

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Allow two to three hours for most chips. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Make sure the area is dry

Getting a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.
