Bath repair in Nolton, done in place

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. We are frequently asked to fix snagging damage from a refit and chips along the edge of the bath, in whirlpool & spa baths, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Pembrokeshire.

Looking after it afterwards

It’s all simple stuff:

  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Rinse it down after each bath

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

A chip on a metal bath shouldn’t be left. Water gets to the metal and rust starts, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Allow a few hours from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Repair or replace: which is better?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and you keep the bath you chose. If the whole surface is worn, re-enamelling may make more sense, and we will tell you. Prices start from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why Nolton customers choose us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Fixed prices from your pictures

Take a look at our prices page or guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

When a repair isn’t the answer

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Questions from Nolton

When can I have a bath again?

Normally by the following day, depending on the repair.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this often. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. We take it back to sound metal, seal it, fill it and match the colour.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we look at:

  • The material and finish
  • The type of damage
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The size and number of damaged areas

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • One picture of the whole bath
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Any details about the material
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Common problems we fix in Nolton

Damage during fitting is very common. Tradespeople drop tools and tiles into the bath, and the damage isn’t always spotted until later. Snagging repairs like these are a regular job for us.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips along the edge of the bath

What to look for in a quote

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • How the colour is matched
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
