About our bath repair in Old Town

A damaged bath does not have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, mixing the colour on the day so the repair is hard to spot. We are frequently asked to fix cracks in an acrylic bath and rust by the waste and overflow, across whirlpool & spa baths, acrylic and cast iron enamel.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

What we do, step by step

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes two to three hours for most chips, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Clear the area around the damage

Advice

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Repair or replace in Old Town?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it takes one visit, and nothing else in the room changes. Our bath repair starts from £95. The price depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Why us?

  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Fixed prices from your photos

Old Town: your questions answered

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Typically, yes, if we can reach the underside to reinforce it. Take off the bath panel and check, or send us a photo.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally by the following day, though it depends on what we have done.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

Is a bath repair permanent?

It should, as long as the bath is firm and the area was prepared well. It’s covered by our one-year guarantee.

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

How to look after the repair

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Have new chips seen to early

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and avoid dropping heavy items on the repaired area. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust can start.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Landlord and trade work in Old Town

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Old Town. The price depends on:

  • The material and finish
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Access to the area

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Any details about the material
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them to us with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.
