How we handle bath repair in Peebles

You don’t need a new bath because of a chip. Our technicians fill, shape and refinish the damage, with the colour mixed on site. We work on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people contact us are chips on the rim or sides and chips under the taps.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Peebles

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Your questions about bath repair in Peebles

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Do you cover the whole of the Scottish Borders?

Everywhere in the UK, Peebles included. There’s no extra charge for travel.

Do the materials smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help, and it soon fades.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How invisible is a bath repair?

On a glossy bath, you will struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

How long before I can use the bath?

Typically within a day, depending on the repair.

Do you need bath repair in Peebles?

Rust tends to begin where water collects, around the waste, under the taps or in an old chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • A kit repair that didn’t last
  • Snagging damage from a refit
  • A chip where the taps sit
  • Scratches you can feel with a fingernail

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • What preparation is included

How to compare quotes

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Peebles. What changes the price is:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How much damage there is
  • What kind of damage it is

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not your postcode. You will see the full price before you book.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Upload photos of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your EH45 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

How it works

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which generally takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

Advice

Repairing versus replacing in Peebles

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. A repair keeps it in place. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing typically costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why book with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Fixed prices from your pictures

What we can’t put right

Not everything can be repaired, and we would rather say so up front. We can’t fix:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Rinse it down after each bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Until we visit, a strip of waterproof tape over the damage helps, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.
