Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Most customers in Porth Teigr get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will send back a fixed quote and some dates.

What we do, step by step

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which typically takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We tint the finish on the day to suit your bath’s shade of white or colour.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, typically by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

Preparing for the visit

  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Ask for a price

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos using our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Honest limits

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we cannot get to from below

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

What we work on

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Pressed steel enamel

Should you replace it?

Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: they’re very heavy to remove, especially upstairs, and replacing like for like is not cheap. A repair keeps it in place. Our bath repair starts from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

What you get with us

  • A fixed quote before booking
  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Most jobs done in one visit

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Porth Teigr as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Do you need bath repair in Porth Teigr?

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Loose legs, no proper cradle or a floor that gives let the base flex.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips under the taps
  • Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
  • Impact holes in acrylic

10 questions to ask before you book

Porth Teigr questions

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. We mix the colour on the day to match, including pastel and older colours.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Will the repair show?

The goal is a repair that blends in. The rest of the bath’s condition makes a difference, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Do you cover the entire of Cardiff?

Everywhere in the UK, Porth Teigr included. Travel is included in the price.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, seal and fill the area, then colour-match the finish.
