How we handle bath repair in Rock

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a smooth, solid repair that blends in. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it sits flush with the rest of the bath. Common call-outs are for rusty patches near the plughole and hairline or through cracks in acrylic, on roll-top & freestanding, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

How the visit works

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive on time, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for two to three hours for most chips. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to care for it.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

What affects the price in Rock

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Access to the area
  • What the surface is made of

What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear pictures are usually enough. Try to include:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • The material, if you know it
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

If you are in Rock and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: tiles along the rim usually crack when it comes out, the panel may not fit the new one, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. A repair skips all of it. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Signs you need bath repair in Rock

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On enamelled baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

People normally call us after spotting something like this:

  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Rusty patches near the plughole

What a repair cannot fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:

  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Aftercare tips

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth

Care for the repair the same way as the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Rust under enamel spreads surprisingly quickly. Left for months, a small chip can grow into a large rust patch, so it pays to deal with it early.

DIY kit or professional repair?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, so it’s always worth repairing.

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.
