When a repair is not the answer
A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. We cannot fix:
- A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed
- Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath
- Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.
What we work on

Bath repair at your home in Shide
We repair enamelled steel, cast iron and acrylic baths. The method changes with the material: rust is treated on metal baths, while cracks in acrylic are reinforced from underneath. Our technicians work on pressed steel enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are impact holes in acrylic and rust spots around the plughole.
Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before you book.

Prices and what affects them
Repairs from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:
- What the surface is made of
- Whether we combine several jobs
- How hard the colour is to match
- What kind of damage it is
We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Shide. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Send pictures for a quote
Photographing the damage takes a minute. Please include:
- What it’s made of, if you know
- A wider photo showing the entire bath
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.
Should you replace it?
Cast iron baths in particular are worth repairing: getting one out, particularly from an upstairs bathroom, is a big job, and a like-for-like replacement can be expensive. Repairing it leaves it where it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

How the visit works
Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes two to three hours for most chips. If anything looks different from your photos, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.
- We start by cleaning the damage and taking out loose enamel and rust.
- Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
- We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
- Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
- Once it has cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
- Point us to the nearest place to park
- Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Can I fix it myself?
What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Different materials, different repairs
Pressed steel
Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Exposed steel rusts fast, especially around the waste, so repair chips early.
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.
When to call us in Shide
Glass and heavy bottles cause more chips than anything else, with dropped shower heads close behind. Fittings cause damage too: water collects there, so chips nearby rust quickly.
The things customers generally mention when they call are:
- Cracks in an acrylic bath
- Holes from dropped items
- Rusty patches near the plughole
- A chip where the taps sit
Questions to ask before you book
- A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
- How the colour is matched
- Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
- What happens if the damage is worse than the pictures show

What else we do in Shide
Landlords, agents and businesses in Shide
Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Shide use us as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it typically costs far less than a refit.
Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.
