Bath repair near Standburn

Bath repair at your home in Standburn

Small damage on a bath is worth repairing early. On steel and cast iron, exposed metal starts to rust, and on acrylic, a crack keeps spreading while the bath flexes. Repairing it stops the damage getting worse. Typical jobs include cracks in an acrylic bath and chips along the edge of the bath, across roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price depends on:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many areas need work

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • What it’s made of, if you know

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Repairing versus replacing in Standburn

People often assume a cracked or chipped bath has to come out. Usually it doesn’t: a repair keeps the bath in service for years, and costs far less than the disruption of a replacement. Prices start from £95. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so repair chips early.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

What we are called out for in Standburn

Dropped items cause the majority of chips, and building work is a common culprit. Cracks in acrylic have a different cause: the bath isn’t properly supported, so it flexes under weight.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Chips along the edge of the bath
  • Impact holes in acrylic
  • Chips under the taps

Our hiring checklist

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

What happens on the day

We turn up when we said we would and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. The work itself takes two to three hours for most chips, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. First, we check the damage against your pictures and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

When we would advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.
