Bath repair in Stockton

Bath repair in Stockton, done in place

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. We work on cast iron enamel, whirlpool & spa baths and acrylic, and common reasons people contact us are a chip where the taps sit and impact holes in acrylic.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Signs you need bath repair in Stockton

Acrylic baths that crack nearly always have a support problem. Loose legs, no proper cradle or a floor that gives let the bath move until the acrylic gives way.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • A cracked acrylic bath
  • Chips on the rim or sides
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • Damage beneath the taps

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Normally within a day, depending on the repair.

Can you repair a failed DIY repair?

Yes, we do this often. We strip it out, deal with any rust and repair it again.

What information do you need?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Do you come to Stockton?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Stockton from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, and that includes Stockton. Prices don’t change with location.

Can tenants book a repair?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron enamel

Should you replace it?

If the rest of the bath is in good condition, a repair is almost always the better choice. It costs less, takes less time and causes far less upheaval, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing normally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Why us?

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited
  • Colour-matched on site
  • Usually one visit, start to finish

The process

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

For landlords and businesses

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

For developers and builders, we fix damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

Use gentle, non-abrasive cleaners and try not to drop heavy bottles on the repair. Get any new chip seen to quickly, before rust sets in.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.
