Bath repair in The Common

Bath repair in The Common, done in place

A damaged bath doesn’t have to mean a new bathroom. We fill the damage, shape it to the curve of the bath and refinish it, with the colour mixed on site. We regularly repair pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding, and the jobs we see most are rusty patches near the plughole and snagging damage from a refit.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Is the work guaranteed?

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can pets and children be at home?

The process

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take a few hours, tidy-up included.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, typically the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Getting a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, which makes it well worth repairing.

Repair or replace: which is better?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead. Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in The Common use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

If you manage property in The Common, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

When we’d advise against a repair

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Rust that has eaten right through a steel bath

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Materials we repair

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Whirlpool & spa baths
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

How we price bath repair

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including The Common. The price reflects:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • One picture of the entire bath
  • Any details about the material

For a price in The Common, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Keeping it looking good

To keep it looking its best for years:

  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Put a towel in the bath if you are working above it
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

If an acrylic bath has a crack, stop showering in it until it’s repaired. Each time it flexes, the crack grows, and it can start to leak underneath.
