Repair or replace in Windermere?

A new bath costs more than the bath itself: taking out the old one, plumbing, tiling, a panel and redecorating. A repair is one job, done in one visit. Our bath repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • A fixed quote before booking
  • No need to remove anything
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited

How the visit works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we’ll take it from there. The job generally runs to a few hours, including clearing up.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Ask for a price

You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

When we would advise against a repair

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Cast iron enamel
  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

For landlords and businesses

If you manage property in Windermere, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Just send photos for each address and we’ll come back with a combined price.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Windermere as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

Questions from Windermere

Do you work in Windermere?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Windermere and the rest of Cumbria. Send pictures and we’ll quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What areas do you cover?

Everywhere in the UK, Windermere included. Travel is included in the price.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

Normally, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a photo.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Cumbria.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

How to care for the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Avoid scourers and gritty cream cleaners.

Stop using the bath if a crack lets water through. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There’s no charge for travel to Windermere. The price depends on:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How many items we do on one visit

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before booking.

Getting a price from photos

You can generally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.
