How we handle bath resealing in Binstead

A reseal is a small job that makes a big difference. Fresh joints make the entire room look cleaner, and they protect the walls and floor. Our technicians work on wet rooms, baths and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are damp near the bath and gaps by the taps.

Peace of mind is built in: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before you book.

FAQs for Binstead

How long does silicone take to cure?

Normally about a day later. We will tell you the exact time.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, so the repair is not disturbed while it cures.

Do you cover Binstead?

We do. We send a technician to Binstead for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

How long does a reseal take?

Normally a couple of hours, plus curing time.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

Usually because the bath or tray moves. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there’s more, we will tell you before starting.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Mostly moisture and poor ventilation. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

Prices and what affects them

We price every job individually, from your photos. What matters most is:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage
  • The material

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Quotes from your pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • The material, if you know it

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you are under no obligation.

Why reseal now?

Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. We remove the old sealant completely. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a couple of hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

How to care for the repair

Aftercare is simple:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Air the room after use
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Good ventilation is the best protection, and wipe the joints after use.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What we can’t put right

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Movement in the bath or tray

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Do you need bath resealing in Binstead?

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed any of these:

  • Unsealed corners
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Black mould in the sealant

What your quote should include

  • How your room will be protected
  • What prep work is covered
  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
