Bath resealing near Black Rock

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. It normally takes around two hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Bath resealing at your home in Black Rock

A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Whether it’s leaks at the edges and discoloured, yellow sealant, we can help, on baths, kitchen worktops & sinks and wet rooms alike.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Black Rock questions

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Typically because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Usually, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

How long before I can shower?

Normally after around 24 hours. We’ll tell you the exact time.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, typically around 24 hours.

Do not wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Common problems we fix in Black Rock

Even good sealant eventually discolours particularly in a well-used bathroom. Steam, soap and movement all wear it down.

Look out for any of the following:

  • A messy previous reseal
  • Unsealed corners
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Black mould in the sealant

What your quote should include

  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Who will actually do the work
  • Aftercare advice
  • When it can be used again

10 questions to ask before booking

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

What bath resealing costs

You’ll know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • The type of damage
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • A wider photo showing the entire bath or shower
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

When we would advise against a repair

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
