How bath resealing works in Monmouthshire
A proper reseal starts with removing every trace of the old silicone. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & sinks and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are missing sealant behind the taps and silicone coming away from the tiles.
We work cleanly and quietly, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes about two hours for a bath. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.
- The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
- We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
- The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
- Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
- The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Common problems we fix in Monmouthshire
Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning can’t get it all out.
The most common problems we’re called about are:
- Water getting behind the bath or tray
- Silicone coming away from the tiles
- Unsealed corners
- Black mould in the sealant
Different materials, different repairs
Sinks and worktops
Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.
Shower trays
Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.
Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Open a window after bathing
- Keep the joints dry
- Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
- Clean the sealant gently and regularly
Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.
Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.
Why repair rather than replace?
Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It peels within weeks, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.
Common questions in Monmouthshire
Do you cover the entire of Monmouthshire?
Everywhere in the UK, Monmouthshire included. Travel is included in the price.
Why does the silicone keep cracking?
Normally because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.
Will the price change on the day?
Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.
Do you seal over the old sealant?
Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.
How do I book?
Photos of the damage, a picture of the whole bath or shower and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.
Do I need to be at home?
Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.
Do you charge for travel?
We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.
