How we handle bath resealing in Caegarw

We cut out all of the old sealant, deal with any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We reseal baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. Whether it’s a messy previous reseal and old sealant that looks dirty, we can usually put it right, on baths, wet rooms and basins & vanity units alike.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we will come back.

When we would advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

What we work on

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

How it works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, do the job and tidy away. Plan for about two hours for a bath from start to finish. Before we go, we will explain how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Choosing a repair company

Caegarw questions

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before and we’ll plan for it.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working that clears as it cures.

What happens if you find more damage?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and tidy up before we leave.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include pictures of each item.

How long will it take?

Generally a couple of hours, plus curing time.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

What affects the price in Caegarw

You won’t pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether we combine several jobs

Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Send photos for a quote

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Details of any past repairs
  • What it’s made of, if you know

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Air the room after use
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, which costs far more to put right. A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before booking, with no extras added later.
