Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Most clients in Caegarw get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Common problems we fix in Caegarw

Rust tends to begin where water collects, by the plughole, beneath dripping taps or in an unrepaired chip. Water on bare metal causes rust that creeps under the surrounding enamel.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • Chips caused by builders
  • Rust spots around the plughole
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface
  • A kit repair that didn’t last

Before you book anyone

  • How soon you can use it again
  • What preparation is included
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • Whether they match the colour on site

10 questions to ask before booking

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Wear across the entire surface, which needs re-enamelling

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Materials we work on in Caegarw

  • Pressed steel enamel
  • Roll-top & freestanding
  • Cast iron enamel
  • Acrylic
  • Whirlpool & spa baths

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a fitted bath normally means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and getting rid of the old bath. A repair deals only with the damage in one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Clean with warm water and a mild detergent
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • Give the bath a quick rinse after use

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. From then on, mild cleaning is all it needs.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Take it off before we arrive.

The process

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take two to three hours for most chips, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Ensure the room can be ventilated
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
