Bath resealing in Coombe Dingle without replacing anything

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant does not stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Whether it’s old sealant that looks dirty and an untidy old seal, we can typically put it right.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Our advice:

  • Keep the joints dry
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Air the room after use
  • Use the extractor fan

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, normally about a day.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

Why book with us

  • No need to remove anything
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

Repairs by material

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, for the same reason.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

How the visit works

Your technician turns up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes about two hours for a bath, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated and dried.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. The bead is smoothed, the tape removed and the seal left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

What bath resealing costs

There is no area surcharge for Coombe Dingle. What changes the price is:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How easy the damage is to reach

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Getting a price from pictures

You can normally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To help us price it:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • The material, if you know it
  • Where you are, by postcode

Email us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your BS9 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Gaps too big for silicone alone
  • Hidden water damage
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
