We reseal baths, shower trays, basins and worktops using mould-resistant silicone. A typical reseal takes a couple of hours, plus curing time. We work on kitchen worktops & sinks, wet rooms and baths, and people most frequently call us about discoloured, yellow sealant and a messy previous reseal.

When we would advise against a repair

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Crank: your questions answered

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Damp is the cause. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

Will there be a smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Are there extra charges for Crank?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Prices and what affects them

There’s no area surcharge for Crank. The price reflects:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The colour and finish to match

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A photo taken from further back
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

For landlords and businesses

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Crank use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access.

Is resealing worth it?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why Crank customers choose us

  • A fixed quote before booking
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • No need to remove anything
  • We leave the room as we found it

Read our full price list.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

What happens on the day

We begin by going over the job with you. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. You can expect it to take a couple of hours, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

How to get a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.
