Why it’s worth resealing in Fowlis

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Bath resealing at your home in Fowlis

Resealing is quick, but it transforms the look. Fresh joints make the entire room look cleaner, and they keep water out. If you’re dealing with mould you can’t clean out and silicone coming away from the tiles, we can generally put it right.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. We return to put right any problem with the work.

What a repair cannot fix

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we have agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take about two hours for a bath, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. The joint is dried thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Black mould in sealant is not just unsightly. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.
