Trusted bath resealing in Hamnavoe

Bath resealing in Hamnavoe without replacing anything

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Typical jobs include gaps by the taps and leaks at the edges, on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and baths.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Hamnavoe and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Is resealing worth it?

Compared with repairing water damage, resealing is cheap. It’s quick, tidy and protects your home. Compared with replacing, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Prices and what affects them

Quotes are free and the price is fixed. What we look at:

  • The type of damage
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Access to the area
  • The material

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Quotes from your pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode

For a price in Hamnavoe, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off

Keep the room well ventilated, and dry the joints after bathing.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

For landlords and businesses

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Hamnavoe as well as householders. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Hamnavoe questions

How do I get a price for bath resealing in Hamnavoe?

We give a fixed price based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your ZE2 postcode.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. Your fixed quote includes everything.

How long does a reseal take?

Generally a couple of hours, plus curing time.

How long before I can shower?

Normally about a day later. We confirm before we leave.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

Can new silicone go over old?

All the old sealant comes out. Fresh silicone does not stick to old.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we’ll quote them together.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

The process

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a couple of hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and how to look after it.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, taps included.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Ensure the area is dry
