Bath resealing near Hartburn

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.

Bath resealing in Hartburn, done in place

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and a new seal stops it. Whether it’s silicone coming away from the tiles and missing sealant behind the taps, we can normally put it right, on kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and basins & vanity units alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Don’t stand toiletries on the seal

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use so mould struggles to take hold.

Don’t wait until water gets behind the bath. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.

What bath resealing costs

A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

How to get a fixed price

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Email us a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you’re in Hartburn, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

What we are called out for in Hartburn

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning can’t get it all out.

The things clients usually mention when they call are:

  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Damp near the bath

10 questions to ask before you book

What a repair cannot fix

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • A flexing bath

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before booking.

What we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you know when to expect us. Once we’re there, the work takes about two hours for a bath in most cases. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We apply new mould-resistant silicone and tool it to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
