Bath resealing for Helme homes

Is resealing worth it?

A reseal is one of the cheapest bathroom jobs there is and protects the walls and floor. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Why us?

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures

Bath resealing in Helme, done in place

Resealing is one of the simplest ways to protect your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and resealing puts a stop to that. Common call-outs are for unsealed corners and black mould in the sealant, in baths, wet rooms and basins & vanity units.

Every job is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you are happy with the plan. Most jobs take around two hours, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. Old sealant and residue are removed.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive

Advice

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

What affects the price in Helme

We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many areas need work
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • What kind of damage it is

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Helme. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures through our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

What we’re called out for in Helme

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Unsealed corners
  • Stained silicone
  • Gaps in the seal
  • Black mould in the sealant

Questions to ask before booking

  • How the colour is matched
  • How to care for the finish
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • How soon you can use it again

How to compare quotes

Work for landlords and builders

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • A flexing bath
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Air the room after use
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in

Let it cure fully before using the bath or shower, usually around 24 hours.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Questions from Helme

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Do you cover Helme?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Helme for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Usually poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

What happens next?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed quote and some dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.

Are there extra charges for Helme?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed quote covers the visit and the work.
