What we are called out for in Hopwas

Black mould is the most common reason people reseal. It grows into the sealant itself, so cleaning cannot get it all out.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Stained silicone
  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray
  • Gaps by the taps

What your quote should include

  • What prep work is covered
  • If travel is included in the price
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How soon you can use it again

How we handle bath resealing in Hopwas

Preparation is everything in a reseal: every bit of old silicone out, mould treated, the joint clean and dry. Then the fresh sealant goes on, in a neat, continuous bead. We regularly repair kitchen worktops & sinks, baths and shower trays & enclosures, and common reasons people contact us are old sealant that looks dirty and a messy previous reseal.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll sort it.

How it works

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take a couple of hours.

  1. First we strip out every bit of the old mastic.
  2. Next we clean the joint and deal with mould.
  3. We ensure the joint is completely dry.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, including around the taps.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Open a window if you can
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children

Ask for a price

There’s no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little, and it protects everything around the bath. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for Hopwas. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why Hopwas clients choose us

  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK

Keeping it looking good

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Dry the seal after bathing

Leave the sealant to cure for the time we give you, usually around 24 hours.

Reseal before water gets in. Split or lifting sealant is a sign it’s time.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents often send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Hopwas questions

Why does mould come back so fast?

Usually poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. We use mould-resistant silicone, and ventilation helps it last.

How do I book?

Send photos through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s often cheaper. Just add the extra items to your photos and we will quote them together.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

Do you cover the whole of Staffordshire?

Across the UK, and that includes Hopwas. Our prices are the same everywhere.

What happens next?

We check the damage, the material and your postcode, then reply with a quote.

What we can’t put right

A repair isn’t right for every job, including:

  • A flexing bath
  • Hidden water damage
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we repair

  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

DIY kit or professional repair?

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, then guarantee it for a year.
