How we handle bath resealing in Lady

A reseal is a small job that makes a big difference. Fresh joints make the whole room look cleaner, and they protect the walls and floor. We regularly repair shower trays & enclosures, baths and wet rooms, and people most frequently call us about silicone coming away from the tiles and stained silicone.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once we have gone.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Air the room after use
  • Do not stand toiletries on the seal
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Use the extractor fan

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

What a repair cannot fix

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Tiles that move, until they’re refixed
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Do you need bath resealing in Lady?

Poor ventilation speeds things up: damp hangs around, and mould grows faster.

10 questions to ask before booking

Lady: your questions answered

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

How long will it take?

A bath or shower usually takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

How long does silicone take to cure?

You will get the curing time from us.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

My seal keeps tearing. Why?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. Persistent splitting can mean the support needs attention.

Which areas do you work in?

We cover the entire UK, including Lady and the rest of the Orkney Islands. Send your postcode with your photos and we’ll offer you dates.

Do I have to be there?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

How it works

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes around two hours in most cases. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. The surrounding area is protected and the joints masked.
  2. We remove the old sealant and every trace of residue.
  3. We clean, treat and dry the joint.
  4. Fresh silicone is applied in a continuous bead.
  5. We smooth the bead, remove the tape and leave it to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

How to get a price

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and you will get a fixed price back. There’s no charge for the quote and no obligation.

Advice

How we price bath resealing

A fixed quote means you know the cost before you book. We take into account:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • What the surface is made of
  • How much damage there is

A repair normally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Quotes from your pictures

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A photo taken from further back

For a price in Lady, the easiest route is pictures: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

Different materials, different repairs

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, with the joint fully dried first.

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, so the joint is at its widest.

Is resealing worth it?

A professional reseal costs little compared with water damage. It’s a quick job that protects your walls and floors. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is typically a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.
