Bath resealing in Kirkwall

Bath resealing in Kirkwall without replacing anything

We cut out all of the old sealant, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We do this for baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. We work on basins & vanity units, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & sinks, and people most often call us about gaps in the seal and stained silicone.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Resealing in Kirkwall: why it matters

Putting new silicone over old doesn’t last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. A proper reseal removes the old first. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why Kirkwall clients choose us

How the visit works

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. After that, protection goes down around the work area and we start. It normally takes a couple of hours, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Advice

Can I fix it myself?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

When we would advise against a repair

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Rotten walls or floors behind the bath
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we repair

  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Basins & vanity units

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep the joints dry
  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and clean them regularly with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Black mould in sealant is not just unsightly, it’s a sign moisture is sitting in the joint. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Common questions in Kirkwall

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Include photos of each item.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause. We fill the bath before sealing it.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

We come back with a fixed price. You are under no obligation.

Do you come to Kirkwall?

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across the Orkney Islands.

  • Silicone smeared on tiles
