Bath resealing in Lydgate

Bath resealing at your home in Lydgate

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and a new seal stops it. We regularly repair shower trays & enclosures, wet rooms and baths, and the jobs we see most are leaks at the edges and a messy previous reseal.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Lydgate as everywhere else we work.

Different materials, different repairs

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Honest limits

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Hidden water damage

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

The process

When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take about two hours for a bath. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Open a window if you can
  • Make sure the area is dry

Why reseal now?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Store bottles on a shelf

Keep the room well ventilated, and wipe the joints after use so mould struggles to take hold.

Black mould in sealant isn’t just unsightly. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.

Lydgate questions

Are there extra charges for Lydgate?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

How long does resealing take?

A bath or shower typically takes a couple of hours. Leave it to cure before use.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

Never over old. It’s removed, cleaned off and the joint dried first.

Is there any odour?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

What affects the price in Lydgate

There’s no area surcharge for Lydgate. The price reflects:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • Access to the area

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Quotes from your pictures

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Most clients in Lydgate get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.
