Bath resealing in Newton Farm

Newton Farm: your questions answered

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Is my repair covered?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

What areas do you cover?

All of Herefordshire, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

Can you reseal over the old silicone?

We always remove the old sealant completely. New silicone will not bond to old.

Can pets and children be at home?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Bath resealing at your home in Newton Farm

We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint is at its widest, so the seal doesn’t tear when the bath is first used. Typical jobs include gaps in the seal and gaps by the taps, across baths, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It soon peels, and traps mould underneath. A proper reseal removes the old first. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Joints split if the bath or tray moves, often because it was sealed with the bath empty.

10 questions to ask before booking

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

How to care for the repair

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Wipe the joints dry after use
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting
  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing so mould struggles to take hold.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. There may be more going on, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

What bath resealing costs

There’s no area surcharge for Newton Farm. What changes the price is:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • How much damage there is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. You will see the full price before booking.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • One picture of the whole bath or shower
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them to us with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price. There’s no charge for the quote and you’re under no obligation.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and we start. It normally takes around two hours, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.
