Questions from Quy Waters

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Are you a vetted contractor?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied. It clears as the materials cure.

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. Send photos with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

How do I stop mould in sealant?

Damp is the cause. Ventilation and drying keep it clean longer.

How long does resealing take?

A bath or shower typically takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

Which areas do you work in?

Everywhere in the UK, Quy Waters included. There is no extra charge for travel.

Bath resealing in Quy Waters without replacing anything

A fresh seal protects your bathroom. Failed sealant lets water get where it shouldn’t, and resealing puts a stop to that. Whether it’s black mould in the sealant and damp near the bath, we can normally put it right, on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & sinks and shower trays & enclosures alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Keeping it looking good

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Use the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, so we will tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a couple of hours. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Before we arrive

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Related advice

Prices and what affects them

We charge the same across the UK, including Quy Waters. What changes the price is:

  • The material and finish
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How much damage there is

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Quotes from your pictures

Phone photos are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Something in shot to show the size

Send us a photo of the damage and a wider shot of the whole item, with your CB1 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing costs very little and protects the walls and floor. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
