Bath repair across CB1: what to expect

A typical bath repair is a few hours’ work, and you can generally bathe again the next day. You will not need a plumber or tiler, because nothing is disconnected. Typical jobs include holes from dropped items and an old repair that has yellowed or come loose, in roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and cast iron enamel.

On the day itself, there is little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will get on with it. The job generally runs to a morning or an afternoon.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. Filler goes in and is sanded flush once it has set.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Work for landlords and builders

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, putting right damage done during fitting so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in CB1 as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it usually costs far less than a refit.

When we would advise against a repair

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them
  • A bath worn all over, where resurfacing makes more sense

DIY repairs versus a professional job

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Check that an acrylic bath does not move when you stand in it
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, normal gentle cleaning is fine, avoiding abrasives.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, and a rust spot is a bigger repair than a clean chip.

Why repair rather than replace?

A repair makes sense whenever the damage is localised. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes.

CB1 questions

Can rust on a bath be repaired?

Yes, it’s one of the most common repairs we do. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

How long before I can use the bath?

Normally the next day. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

What happens next?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

I tried a repair kit. Can you fix it?

Yes, we do this often. The old material comes out, any rust is treated, then we repair it properly.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.
