DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Bath resealing in Cambridge, done in place

We reseal baths with them filled with water, so the joint opens fully, so the seal does not tear when the bath is first used. Our repair technicians work on baths, kitchen worktops & sinks and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are a messy previous reseal and black mould in the sealant.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What a repair can’t fix

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms

Resealing in Cambridge: why it matters

Resealing is routine maintenance. Putting off a reseal can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Send photos and we will give you the exact figure.

What you get with us

  • Fixed prices from your photos
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited
  • No need to remove anything
  • Rooms protected and left tidy

Questions from Cambridge

How long does a reseal take?

A bath or shower generally takes a couple of hours. It then needs time to cure.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

How long before I can shower?

You will get the curing time from us.

Do you work in Cambridge?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Cambridge for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

What does bath resealing cost?

Every job gets a fixed price from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your CB1 postcode.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

The process

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, and get on with the job, which usually takes around two hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we will explain it before carrying on.

  1. The old silicone is cut out completely.
  2. We remove the residue and clean the joint.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

What we are called out for in Cambridge

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould loves, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Look out for these signs:

  • Silicone coming away from the tiles
  • Mould you can’t clean out
  • Silicone smeared on tiles
  • Damp near the bath

How to compare quotes

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Cambridge, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we will come back with a combined price.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Give the seal a regular clean
  • Store bottles on a shelf
  • Use the extractor fan
  • Wipe the joints dry after use

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem; it shows moisture is getting in. An early reseal keeps water where it belongs.
