Signs you need bath resealing in Scawthorpe

Most reseals are because of black mould. It grows into the silicone, so cleaning only removes the surface.

Look out for these signs:

  • Damp near the bath
  • Mould you cannot clean out
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Sealant that’s split or lifting

How to compare quotes

Bath resealing in Scawthorpe, done in place

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. We regularly repair kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and people most frequently call us about black spots in the silicone and gaps in the seal.

Peace of mind is built in: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

What we cannot put right

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
  • A bath or tray that moves, until its support is fixed
  • Hidden water damage

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Questions from Scawthorpe

Can new silicone go over old?

Never over old. The old sealant is cut out and the joint cleaned and dried.

When can you do it?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Generally because the bath or tray moves, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We seal baths full of water.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Generally, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

How the visit works

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. Most visits take about two hours for a bath, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. All the old sealant is cut out and removed.
  2. We clean the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We make sure the joint is completely dry.
  4. We fill a bath with water before sealing so the gap is at its widest.
  5. We run a new bead of mould-resistant silicone and smooth it neatly, taps included.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Getting a price

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us photos through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole bath or shower, we can price the job the same day in most cases.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

We reseal basins, vanity tops and kitchen worktops, once the joint is completely dry.

Can I fix it myself?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Open a window after bathing
  • Run the extractor fan during and after showers
  • Reseal when black spots will not clean off

Good ventilation is the best protection, and dry the joints after bathing so mould struggles to take hold.

Mouldy sealant is more than a cosmetic problem. Resealing early keeps water out of the walls and floor.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Scawthorpe

For anyone letting property in or around Scawthorpe, we will quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Hospitality businesses need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is a small job. Leaving split or mouldy sealant can let water reach the walls and floor, and that damage costs much more to fix. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.

Why book with us

  • No extra charge for your area
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
