Bath resealing for Sealand homes

How we handle bath resealing in Sealand

A good reseal is all about preparation: old silicone removed, mould treated, the joint cleaned and dried. Then the fresh sealant goes on, as one neat, continuous bead. Our repair technicians work on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and baths, and the jobs we see most are gaps in the seal and missing sealant behind the taps.

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. The job normally takes a couple of hours. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Questions from Sealand

Why does my sealant keep going mouldy?

Typically poor ventilation and moisture sitting on the joint. Mould-resistant silicone and good ventilation help.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. Send pictures with your postcode and we will reply with the earliest dates.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Typically, yes. The old repair comes out first.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, once the joint is completely dry.

When to call us in Sealand

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, frequently because it was sealed with the bath empty.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Damp near the bath
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Missing sealant behind the taps
  • Black mould in the sealant

Before you book anyone

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • If travel is included in the price
  • How long it needs to cure
  • How your room will be protected

10 questions to ask before booking

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Reseal when black spots won’t clean off
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Keep the joints dry
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, so we’ll tell you if it needs a builder or plumber.

What bath resealing costs

There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What kind of damage it is
  • The size and number of damaged areas

The price reflects the work involved, not where you live. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To make it quick:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • One picture of the whole bath or shower
  • Where you are, by postcode

To get a price, send two or three pictures through our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

When we’d advise against a repair

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:

  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Movement in the bath or tray

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & sinks

Is resealing worth it?

Resealing costs very little and protects the walls and floor. Leaving failed sealant can let water cause damage that costs far more to fix. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Sealand. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
