About our bath resealing in The Tuckies

Resealing is quick, but it transforms the look. Clean, white joints make a bathroom look cared for, and they keep water out. Our technicians work on kitchen worktops & sinks, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures, and common reasons people contact us are old sealant that looks dirty and black mould in the sealant.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Why reseal now?

Resealing is routine maintenance. Leaving split or mouldy sealant lets water get behind the bath or tray, which costs far more to put right. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is normally a fraction of the price, because there is no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Common questions in The Tuckies

Are there extra charges for The Tuckies?

We don’t add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Do I need to be at home?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

When can you do it?

That depends on our diary for your area. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

How long will it take?

Most reseals take about two hours. Leave it to cure before use.

What happens next?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, plus dates. You’re under no obligation.

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

The bath or tray is probably flexing. If it keeps happening, the support may need fixing.

Signs you need bath resealing in The Tuckies

Poor ventilation speeds things up: moisture sits on the joints longer, and mould grows faster.

People generally call us after spotting one of these:

  • Black spots in the silicone
  • Gaps in the seal
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Leaks at the edges

How to compare quotes

Prices and what affects them

There is no area surcharge for The Tuckies. What changes the price is:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • The size and number of damaged areas

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed quote

The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A picture taken from further back
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Upload a picture of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, and tell us you are in The Tuckies, and we’ll reply with a fixed price.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Let steam out after showers
  • Replace the seal when mould sets in
  • Keep bottles off the joints
  • Ventilate the bathroom well

Don’t scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and keep shampoo bottles off the joints.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

What your bath or shower is made of matters

Shower trays

We put weight on a tray before sealing it, so the joint is at its widest.

Baths

Baths are resealed with water in them, to open the joint fully.

Can I fix it myself?

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, then guarantee it for a year.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. Allow about two hours for a bath.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. We treat mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. We fill the bath, or weight the tray, to open the joint.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings

Getting a price

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.
