Bath resealing in Tircoed

Bath resealing in Tircoed without replacing anything

The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone won’t bond to old, which is why many DIY jobs peel. We work on basins & vanity units, baths and wet rooms, and common reasons people get in touch are mould you can’t clean out and silicone coming away from the tiles.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

Tircoed questions

Do you work in Tircoed?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Tircoed for every job, with no extra charge for travel.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

How long does silicone take to cure?

We will give you the curing time.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often glad to have it sorted.

Different materials, different repairs

Baths

We fill the bath before sealing, to open the joint fully.

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Landlord and trade work in Tircoed

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Why reseal now?

Putting new silicone over old does not last. It peels within weeks, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

The process

The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the work takes about two hours for a bath. Before we leave, we explain the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
  3. Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
  4. The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
  5. We apply fresh mould-resistant silicone and tool a neat bead.

Signs you need bath resealing in Tircoed

Sealant doesn’t last forever. Each shower leaves moisture and soap behind, which mould loves, and the joint flexes each time the bath fills.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • Mould you cannot clean out
  • Sealant that is split or lifting
  • Discoloured, yellow sealant
  • Missing sealant behind the taps

10 questions to ask before booking

How to look after the repair

To keep it looking its best:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Ventilate the bathroom well
  • Reseal at the first sign of lifting

Do not scrape the sealant with anything sharp, and don’t stand bottles on the seal.

If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

What a repair cannot fix

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • Movement in the bath or tray
  • Very wide gaps that need a trim
  • Water damage behind the bath that needs a builder

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.
