Bath resealing in Tranent

How we handle bath resealing in Tranent

All of the old sealant is cut out, treat any mould, and apply fresh mould-resistant silicone. We reseal baths, showers, sinks and worktops, and that includes the awkward spots behind the taps. Whether it’s missing sealant behind the taps and water getting behind the bath or tray, we can normally put it right, on basins & vanity units, baths and kitchen worktops & sinks alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right in that time, we come back and put it right.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Dry the seal after bathing
  • Clean the sealant gently and regularly
  • Air the room after use
  • Keep bottles off the joints

Run the extractor fan, dry the joints after bathing, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.

Damp below or loose tiles need checking quickly. There may be more going on, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.

Repairs by material

Sinks and worktops

Basins, vanity units and kitchen worktops are resealed too, with the joint fully dried first.

Shower trays

Trays are sealed with weight on them, so the joint is at its widest.

When to call us in Tranent

Sealant splits when the bath or tray moves, frequently because it was sealed with the bath empty.

Look out for these signs:

  • Gaps in the seal
  • Gaps by the taps
  • A messy previous reseal
  • Water getting behind the bath or tray

Why reseal now?

Resealing costs very little. Failed sealant can lead to water damage that is much more expensive. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Work for landlords and builders

If you manage property in Tranent, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Just send photos for each address and we will price them together.

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

How the visit works

From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a couple of hours, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We cut out and remove all of the old sealant.
  2. The joint is cleaned and any mould treated.
  3. We dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled with water first, so the joint is at its widest.
  5. New mould-resistant silicone goes on and is tooled to a neat finish, taps included.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

How to get a price

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Related advice

How we price bath resealing

You will know the full cost before you book. We take into account:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send photos for a quote

Phone photos are fine. Ensure they show:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare

A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath or shower, add your postcode and send them to us. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

DIY kit or professional repair?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, a professional repair is worth it.

Tranent questions

Why does my sealant keep splitting?

Movement is the usual cause. We seal baths full of water.

How do I book?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we’ll agree a date.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

Is there any odour?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

Which areas do you work in?

All of East Lothian, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

What happens after I send photos?

We come back with a fixed quote. You are under no obligation.
