Bath resealing at your home in Winterbourne Down
The key to a good reseal is getting all of the old silicone out. New silicone will not bond to old, which is why so many DIY reseals peel. Whether it’s silicone smeared on tiles and mould you can’t clean out, we can help, on basins & vanity units, wet rooms and baths alike.
You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we’ll explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Why reseal now?
Sealing over old silicone is a false economy. It soon peels, and mould stays trapped behind it. We remove the old sealant completely. Our prices are the same across the UK, with no extra for Winterbourne Down. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

DIY repairs versus a professional job
DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.
A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Baths
Baths are resealed with water in them, so the joint is at its widest.
Shower trays
Trays are sealed with weight on them, for the same reason.
Do you need bath resealing in Winterbourne Down?
No sealant lasts for ever. Every bath or shower adds moisture and soap residue, which mould loves, and the joint moves slightly every time the bath is filled.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Stained silicone
- Gaps by the taps
- Water getting behind the bath or tray
- Gaps in the seal

Winterbourne Down: your questions answered
Will there be a smell?
It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.
Are there extra charges for Winterbourne Down?
Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.
Will it make a mess?
No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.
Is a repair better than a new one?
Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.
Why does the silicone keep cracking?
Movement is the usual cause, or it was sealed with the bath empty. We fill the bath before sealing it.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Typically, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send photos.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.
The process
We turn up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. The work itself takes around two hours, and we leave the room as we found it.
- We cut out all of the old sealant.
- Residue is removed and the joint cleaned.
- Any mould is treated and the joint dried.
- The bath is filled with water, or weight put on the tray.
- New mould-resistant silicone is applied and tooled neatly.

How to get a price
Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath or shower, add your postcode and send them over. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

Prices and what affects them
Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- How many areas need work
- Doing more than one item at once
- Access to the area
The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.
Send pictures for a quote
Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- Any details about the material
- Details of any past repairs
- Where you are, by postcode
There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

What a repair cannot fix
A repair is not always the answer, and we would rather say so up front. Repairs won’t solve:
- Gaps so wide they need filling or trims before sealing
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- A flexing bath
Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.
Surfaces we repair
- Kitchen worktops & sinks
- Baths
- Basins & vanity units
- Wet rooms
- Shower trays & enclosures
Aftercare tips
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:
- Dry the seal after bathing
- Reseal at the first sign of lifting
- Run the extractor fan during and after showers
- Clean the joints with a mild cleaner
Run the extractor fan, wipe the joints dry after use, and give them a regular clean with a mild cleaner to slow mould growth.
If you notice damp, stains on the ceiling below or loose tiles, act quickly. It may be more than a reseal, and we will say if you need a builder or plumber.
