Portishead: your questions answered

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

What happens next?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If we need another angle, we will ask.

Can you turn my avocado bath white?

Yes. It’s resurfaced in white where it stands.

What areas do you cover?

We cover the entire UK, including Portishead and the rest of North Somerset. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can you do the toilet too?

Talk to us first. The inside of a bowl is always wet and scrubbed, so we will tell you what will last.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

What we cannot put right

A repair is not always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • The inside of a toilet bowl, unless we’ve agreed it will last
  • Items cracked right through
  • Fittings and taps (these are masked, not recoloured)

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Materials we work on in Portishead

  • Coloured basins
  • Avocado, pampas and pink baths
  • Whole bathroom suites
  • Coloured shower trays

The process

On the day, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job generally takes a day or two, depending on how many items. We clean up when we are done and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We protect the room and ventilate it.
  2. Next we degrease everything and fix chips.
  3. The surface is prepared and primed.
  4. The new white, or other colour, finish is sprayed on.
  5. Once cured, normally by the following day, the suite is ready.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

How to get a price

DIY repairs versus a professional job

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents often send us photos straight from the inventory. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Portishead as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it costs much less than replacing.

Repairing versus replacing in Portishead

Swapping a coloured suite for a white one involves new sanitaryware, a plumber and a tiler. Resurfacing changes the colour with everything left in place. Prices start from £350. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Portishead

How we price coloured bath resurfacing

Resurfacing from £350. We give every job a fixed quote from pictures. These are the things that affect it:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • What the surface is made of

A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the whole suite

You don’t need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.
