Bath repair across AB22: what to expect

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, your tiles stay as they are, and the repaired area is colour matched so it blends in. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel, and common reasons people contact us are a hole punched through by something heavy and rust by the waste and overflow.

When we visit, we arrive at the time we have agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. The job usually takes a few hours, depending on the damage. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

Cost

Prices start from £95. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Repairs by material

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.

Cast iron

Cast iron is heavy and rigid, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. We price every job individually, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How many areas need work

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for AB22. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the whole bath
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

To get a price, send a couple of pictures using our quote form or ring us. We’ll say straight away whether it can be repaired.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Do not scrub with anything abrasive
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
  • Store metal items away from the bath

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft cloth. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath until it’s repaired. Leaks under a bath can damage floors and ceilings.

Can I fix it myself?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Questions from AB22

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

Can you repair a hole in a bath?

Typically. Send us a picture of the hole and one from under the bath if you can.

Can a cracked acrylic bath be fixed?

Most of the time. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so access behind the panel is important.

Is a bath repair durable?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and it’s guaranteed for a year. Gentle cleaning helps it last.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

What happens after I send pictures?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If we need another angle, we’ll ask.
