How bath repair works in CB21

Most bath damage, from chips and cracks to rust spots and holes, can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles aren’t touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. We work on cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and whirlpool & spa baths, and common reasons people get in touch are a chipped rim or side and impact holes in acrylic.

We work cleanly and quietly. Protection goes down first, then the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, usually the next day.

Cost

Our bath repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Around Linton

We visit homes around Linton CofE Infant School, Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin and Linton Village College and the streets around them. Linton’s nearest station is Great Chesterford station, about 4.7 miles south-west. Well-known places in the area include Castle Camps (4.6 miles south-east) and Saffron Walden Community Hospital (5.2 miles south). Not far away are Rivey Hill and Hales and Shadwell Woods.

Should you replace it?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It costs far less than a new bath plus fitting, it’s done in one visit, and nothing else in the room changes.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What preparation is included
  • How long it needs to cure
  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including CB21. The price reflects:

  • How many areas need work
  • What the surface is made of
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • How hard the colour is to match

A repair normally costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Before you send photos, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole bath, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed quote, not a guess.

How the damage happens

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: bottles, shower heads, tiles and tools. On steel and cast iron baths, any chip down to the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • Rust by the waste and overflow
  • Chips caused by builders
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • A chipped rim or side

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Looking after it afterwards

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Fix dripping taps early to stop staining and limescale
  • Protect the bath with a towel when doing jobs nearby
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • Keep abrasive pads and gritty cleaners away from the bath

In the first few days, avoid putting weight or bottles on the repair. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so early repair saves time and money.

Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.
