How bath repair works in IP8

Bath repair is our most common job. A chip by the taps, a crack in the base and a rust spot by the plughole are all repaired in place, generally in a single visit. We regularly repair roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and pressed steel enamel, and people most often call us about rusty patches near the plughole and chips on the rim or sides.

The work is clean and fairly quiet. We protect the area first, then the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage. At the end we talk you through the curing time and the aftercare.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. We fill the damage and sand it flush with the surrounding surface.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, usually by the following day, the bath is ready to use.

What you’ll pay

Our bath repair starts from £95. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Store metal items away from the bath
  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • Get a dripping tap fixed promptly
  • Rinse it down after each bath

Leave the repair to cure for as long as we say before using the bath. After that, gentle cleaning keeps it looking good.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • What kind of damage it is
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • How much damage there is

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Send pictures for a quote

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of pictures through our quote form or ring us. We’ll say right away if a repair is the right fix.

Repairs by material

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Chips rust quickly on steel, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

Composite and resin

Stone resin and composite baths are heavy and solid, and frequently freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, just like other baths.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Honest limits

A repair is not right for every job, for example:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet

FAQs for IP8

Will I be able to see the repair?

The goal is a repair that blends in. How well it disappears depends on the condition of the rest of the bath, and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We will explain what it covers when we quote.

Is a cracked acrylic bath repairable?

In most cases. The back of the crack is strengthened before the front is filled and refinished, so we need access under the bath.

What information do you need?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

Can you match an avocado or pink bath?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including pastel and older colours.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.
