How bath repair works in IP9
Whatever the damage, the aim is the same: a repair that is smooth, sound and hard to spot. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it’s level with the surrounding surface. We regularly repair whirlpool & spa baths, pressed steel enamel and acrylic, and common reasons people contact us are rust by the waste and overflow and damage beneath the taps.
When we visit, we arrive at the time we’ve agreed, cover the area with dust sheets and masking, and set to work. Expect it to take two to three hours for most chips. We tidy up before we leave and let you know when you can use it again.
- First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
- Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
- We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
- We tint the finish by hand to match the bath.
- The repair is polished to the same gloss as the bath and left to cure.
Cost
Prices start from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.
What you get with us
- Same prices wherever you are
- Colour mixed on the day to match
- Everything repaired in place

Near you in Capel St Mary
In Capel St Mary, that means homes near East Bergholt High School and Capel St Mary Methodist Church. The closest station to Capel St Mary is Manningtree station, about 3.8 miles south of the centre. Nearby you will also find Little Wenham Castle (0.9 miles north-west) and East Suffolk and Ipswich Hospital (6 miles north-east). For a walk, there’s Cattawade Marshes and Alton Water.
Repairs by material
Pressed steel
Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.
Composite and resin
Composite baths are dense and solid, and often freestanding. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour matched, just like other baths.
Should you replace it?
When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and you keep the bath you chose. Where the entire surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead.
What your quote should include
- Who turns up on the day
- What happens if they find more damage
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- How your room will be protected
What a repair cannot fix
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:
- A steel bath rusted through
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
- A whole bath that’s dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix
Looking after it afterwards
Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:
- A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
- Store metal items away from the bath
- Use a soft cloth and washing-up liquid for everyday cleaning
- Check that an acrylic bath doesn’t move when you stand in it
Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, as they can leave rust marks. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.
Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, so water can’t get in. Remove it before the repair.
What bath repair costs
Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:
- Where the damage is and how we get to it
- Whether we combine several jobs
- Unusual colours or finishes
- Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for IP9. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Send photos for a quote
Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:
- One picture of the whole bath
- Any details about the material
- A close-up of the damage, in focus
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
A quote takes minutes to ask for: take one close-up and one wider shot of the bath, include your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.
