Bath and surface repairs in PA2

Based in PA2? We cover Paisley, Glenburn and Charleston and the rest of the district, repairing in place.

About bath repair in PA2

Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all repaired in place, normally in one visit. We regularly repair acrylic, roll-top & freestanding and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are a failed DIY repair that’s discoloured or lifting and cracks in an acrylic bath.

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which generally takes two to three hours for most chips. If anything looks different from your photos, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We protect the bath and the floor around it.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned, keyed and degreased.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We clear up and give you the curing time, normally until the day after.

Landmarks near Paisley

Around Paisley, we work in homes near Castlehead High School, St Luke's Church and Gallows Green. There is a railway station in Paisley itself: Paisley Canal station. A little further out are Riccartsbar Hospital (less than half a mile west) and Paisley Museum (0.6 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Walls Loch and Neilston Pad.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths are lighter than cast iron, but have a similar enamel surface. Chips rust quickly on steel, especially around the waste, so early repairs matter.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

When a repair is not the answer

Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • A bath that flexes because its feet or cradle have failed (that needs fixing first)
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a fitted bath usually means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling and a new panel and disposing of the old one. Repairing it fixes just the damaged area in a single visit.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How to look after the finish
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • How the colour is matched
  • What preparation is included

Looking after it afterwards

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Rinse the bath after use, especially in hard water areas
  • If an acrylic bath flexes, have its feet adjusted
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface

Do not leave razors, cans or hair grips in the bath, as they can leave rust marks. And fix dripping taps promptly.

Tape over a fresh chip or crack until it’s repaired, to keep water out. Remove it before the repair.
