Bath repair across SS1: what to expect

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a smooth, solid repair that blends in. We prepare the area properly, fill and shape it, then match the colour and gloss so it sits flush with the rest of the bath. Our repair technicians work on roll-top & freestanding, acrylic and cast iron enamel, and the jobs we see most are damage done while the bathroom was being fitted and deep scratches in acrylic.

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, cover and mask the work area, then carry out the work, which generally takes a few hours. If we find something your photos didn’t show, we’ll explain it before carrying on.

  1. We clean the area and remove any loose enamel or rust.
  2. Next we fill the damage and sand it smooth and level.
  3. We mix the colour on the day to match your bath’s exact shade.
  4. We apply the finish coats and polish the repair so it blends in.
  5. Once it has cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready to use.

When a repair isn’t the answer

It helps to know what we can’t do too:

  • Cracks in acrylic we can’t reach from underneath
  • Leaks from the waste or overflow fittings (a plumber’s job)
  • A whole bath that is dull or worn, where a full re-enamel is the better fix

Landlord and trade work in SS1

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in SS1 use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We hold CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accreditations.

Common problems we fix in SS1

Most bath damage comes from something dropped: a shampoo bottle, a shower head, a tile or a tool during a refit. On steel and cast iron baths, a chip that reaches the metal lets water in, and rust follows.

Most people contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Rusty patches near the plughole
  • A hole punched through by something heavy
  • An old repair that has yellowed or come loose
  • Scuffs and scratches in the surface

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic baths are moulded sheet reinforced underneath. There’s no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Composite and resin

Composite baths are dense and solid. Chips and scratches can be filled and colour-matched, in much the same way.

Aftercare tips

To keep it looking its best:

  • Do not leave a fresh chip for long
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Make sure an acrylic bath is firm underfoot
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

Treat the repaired area like the rest of the bath: a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs. Keep scouring pads and gritty cleaners away from it.

Small chips are quick to repair. Left alone, they stain and can rust, so it’s worth getting them done early.

Common questions in SS1

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is a bath repair durable?

A properly prepared repair should last a long time, and ours come with a one-year guarantee. Gentle cleaning helps.

How long does the repair take to cure?

Most baths can be used the following day. We’ll tell you the exact curing time when we finish.

What about rust by the waste?

Yes. We take out the rust and any loose enamel, fill the area, then colour-match the finish.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Which areas do you work in?

The whole UK, including all of Southend-on-Sea. Just include your postcode and we’ll confirm dates.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.
