Bath repair across TR14: what to expect

Whether your bath is steel, cast iron or acrylic, we can repair it. Each material is repaired a little differently: metal baths need any rust dealt with first, and acrylic cracks need support from behind. Common call-outs are for impact holes in acrylic and chips under the taps, in cast iron enamel, acrylic and whirlpool & spa baths.

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and tidy away. Allow a few hours, depending on the damage. Before we go, we will explain when it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
  2. We clean, key and degrease the damage, and any rust is treated.
  3. We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
  4. We match both the colour and the shine.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, normally the following day.

Cost

Prices start from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair won’t do:

  • Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
  • Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
  • Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below

How to look after the repair

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • A dripping tap stains enamel, so fix it early
  • Do not leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts

A repaired bath needs no special treatment. Avoid bleach-based and gritty cleaners.

If water is getting through a crack, stop using the bath. Water under the bath can damage the floor and the ceiling below.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including TR14. The price reflects:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Access to the area

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for TR14. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Send photos for a quote

You can take the pictures on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Ensure they show:

  • Natural light rather than flash
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos using our quote form or ring us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Work for landlords and builders

Letting agents frequently send us photos straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Send the address, pictures and access details and we’ll arrange it.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. There is no rust, but cracks, holes and scratches happen, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Questions from TR14

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, for a year. If anything goes wrong with the repair within the year, we return to fix it.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price, plus dates. You are under no obligation.

Is there a call-out fee?

There’s no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Will the price change on the day?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. The price only changes if you agree.

Do you do work for letting agents?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What do you need from me?

Photos of the damage, a picture of the whole bath and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.
