How we handle shower tray repair in Ednam
We repair plenty of shower trays. Chips by the waste, cracks across the base and dull, stained surfaces can all be put right without removing the tray. We work on ceramic, cast iron and enamelled steel, and the jobs we see most are a tray that looks tired however much you clean it and a tray that flexes.
Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

Ednam questions
Can landlords book you?
Yes, often. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.
Is the work guaranteed?
Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Is it messy?
Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.
Can you quote from pictures?
Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.
Is it safe with children and pets around?
On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.
How much does shower tray repair cost in Ednam?
Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You will get a fixed figure before you book.
Which areas do you work in?
All of the Scottish Borders, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure the landlord agrees.
How it works
The work is clean and fairly quiet, so you can stay at home while we’re there. Protection goes down first, then the job itself takes a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to care for it.
- We check the tray is firmly supported and find the cause of any crack.
- We clean and prepare the damaged area or the whole tray.
- Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
- We colour-match the repair, or spray a new finish across the entire tray.
- Once cured, normally by the following day, you can use the shower.
Preparing for the visit

Related advice
Repairs by material
Enamelled steel
Enamelled steel trays behave like steel baths. Exposed metal can rust, so it’s worth repairing early.
Acrylic
Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.
DIY repairs versus a professional job
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.
You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.
Aftercare tips
Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:
- Rinse the tray after each shower
- Keep harsh chemicals off the tray
- Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner
- Check the seal every few months
Check the silicone around the tray every few months, and replace it when it splits or goes black.
Failed sealant around a tray should be replaced quickly. It lets water behind the tray and can cause damage underneath.
What we’re called out for in Ednam
On timber floors, movement can crack a tray, especially if the tray wasn’t bedded properly. On solid floors, cracks generally point to an uneven base.
You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:
- Chipped corners or rims
- Scratches in the surface
- A tray that flexes
- A damaged area around the waste
Before you book anyone
- When it can be used again
- What protection goes down before work starts
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- What happens if they find more damage
How we price shower tray repair
Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:
- How hard the colour is to match
- How much damage there is
- Access to the area
- The material and finish
A repair typically costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.
How to get a fixed quote
Phone pictures are fine. Just make sure we can see:
- Details of any past repairs
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- A wider photo showing the whole shower tray
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the whole shower tray, add your postcode and send them over. You will get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Why repair rather than replace?
If the tray is solid and the crack hasn’t let water spread, repair is usually best. If water has damaged the floor, or the tray is cracked in several places, a new tray may be better. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.
