Common problems we fix in New Zealand

Stone resin trays are rigid, so they crack rather than bend if the floor beneath them isn’t flat and fully supported. Timber floors that move can cause it too.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Chips on the edges
  • A damaged area around the waste
  • Movement when you stand on it
  • Snagging damage in a new bathroom

What your quote should include

  • Whether they match the colour on site
  • What prep work is covered
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included

How to compare quotes

DIY repairs versus a professional job

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

New Zealand: your questions answered

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed quote, usually with dates to choose from. You are under no obligation.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Can you replace the silicone at the same time?

We can. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders.

Do the materials smell?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

How soon can you come?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Which areas do you work in?

We cover the whole UK, including New Zealand and the rest of Buckinghamshire. Send your postcode with your photos and we’ll confirm dates.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

What affects the price in New Zealand

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for New Zealand. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Any details about the material
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the whole shower tray, add your postcode and send them to us. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

How to care for the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Replace failing sealant promptly
  • Rinse away soap after showering
  • Clean with washing-up liquid and a soft cloth

Keep heavy bottles off the tray floor, so they can’t be knocked over.

Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water may be getting under the tray, where it causes damage you cannot see.

Repairs by material

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are popular because they’re rigid and low-profile. They need a flat, solid base, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Repair or replace in New Zealand?

When the tray is firm and dry underneath, repair is the obvious choice. If water has damaged the floor, or the tray is cracked in several places, a new tray may be better. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How it works

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. Allow a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. First, we check whether the tray moves.
  2. The damaged area is cleaned and opened up.
  3. We reinforce any crack and fill the damage.
  4. The repair is shaped, colour-matched and finished.
  5. We leave it to cure, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

How to get a price
