DIY repairs versus a professional job

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

About our shower tray repair in Tayport

Every crack has a cause, and we find it first. If the tray moves, the support is fixed or flagged before we repair it, so the repair lasts. Whether it’s scratches in the surface and snagging damage in a new bathroom, we can help.

You’re covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there is a problem and we’ll sort it.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

How we price shower tray repair

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Tayport. What changes the price is:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • How many areas need work
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How easy the damage is to reach

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • The material, if you know it
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

Questions from Tayport

Do you cover Tayport?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and travel to Tayport. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What areas do you cover?

All of Fife, and the rest of the UK. Travel is included in the price.

How long before I can shower?

Normally by the following day. We’ll tell you the exact time when we finish.

Can a stained tray be refinished?

Yes. The whole tray can be resurfaced.

Do I have to be there?

We need someone to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.

Can landlords book you?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners.

Are there extra charges for Tayport?

There is no separate call-out charge. Your fixed price includes everything.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Tayport

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Why repair rather than replace?

The tray is typically the last thing fitted and the first thing tiled up to, so replacing one disturbs a lot around it. A repair keeps everything as it is. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are rigid and slim. A flat, solid base is essential, and we match repairs to the surface finish.

What we do, step by step

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. It usually takes a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Old sealant is removed if it’s in the way.
  3. We clean and key the tray, then repair the damage.
  4. The surface is refinished to match.
  5. We clean up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

How to get a price

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Advice

Keeping it looking good

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Stick to gentle cleaners
  • Give the tray a quick rinse after use
  • Store bottles off the tray
  • Report any creaking or movement early

Rinse the tray down after showering, use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, and keep an eye on the sealant so water cannot get underneath.

Failed sealant around a tray should be replaced quickly. Water gets behind and under the tray and can damage the floor below.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • A tray broken in more than one place
  • A tray that flexes because it was never properly supported
  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.
