About our shower tray repair in The Shoe

Stone resin, acrylic and ceramic trays can all be repaired, or resurface the entire tray if it’s worn. The tray stays in place, so the screen and tiling stay as they are. We work on stone resin, ceramic and cast iron, and the jobs we see most are edge chips from dropped bottles and damage from a refit or building work.

You are covered after we leave: our one-year guarantee applies to every job, and we explain what it covers before booking.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new tray can be cheap, but fitting it isn’t: taking out the enclosure, tiling and resealing. Repairing it takes one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

Acrylic trays are lighter and slightly flexible, so a firm base is essential. We repair cracks and scratches.

Ceramic

Ceramic trays are hard and glossy. Impacts can chip or crack them, and the repair is polished to match the shine.

What shower tray repair costs

Prices start from £95. We do not charge extra for travel to The Shoe. The price comes down to:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • The material

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Send pictures for a quote

You can take the pictures on your phone, there is no need for anything special. Make sure they show:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

If you are in The Shoe and want a price, pictures are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

When a repair isn’t the answer

In fairness, there are a few things a repair will not fix:

  • Leaks from the waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Water damage to the floor beneath the tray
  • Trays cracked in several places

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we work on

  • Stone resin
  • Enamelled steel
  • Acrylic
  • Ceramic
  • Cast iron

What we do, step by step

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. After that, protection goes down around the work area and the work begins. You can expect it to take a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface.

  1. We check the tray for movement first.
  2. We clean the damage and open it up so the repair can bond.
  3. We reinforce any crack and fill the damage.
  4. We shape the repair, match the colour and finish it.
  5. We leave it to cure, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

Getting a price

Pricing is simple: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.

Advice

Questions from The Shoe

Is a cracked tray repairable?

Frequently. A tray that moves needs its support sorting before the repair.

Can I keep using a cracked tray?

Not until you know the crack isn’t letting water through. Look for damp or stains below.

What do you need from me?

Send pictures through the quote form or call 0345 017 0787.

Do you reseal the tray as well?

Yes, if you’d like us to. After a repair is a good time to reseal.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

You get a fixed quote and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we’ll ask for another photo.

What does shower tray repair cost?

Repairs from £95. Every job gets a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up and a picture of the whole item and your postcode.

Keeping it looking good

Nothing complicated is needed, just a few sensible habits:

  • Stick to gentle cleaners
  • Rinse away soap after showering
  • Avoid strong descalers and bleach
  • Reseal when the silicone splits or turns black

Rinse the tray down after showering, use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, and keep the sealant in good condition so water cannot get underneath.

Do not keep using a cracked tray. Water may be getting under the tray, where it causes damage you cannot see.
